Bedroom lighting is often overlooked when planning your home’s lighting design, however, this rooms lighting has a significant impact on our overall health and well-being. Afterall, your bedroom is where you start and end each day, therefore it deserves some special attention! Here are our top tips for lighting your bedroom to create the perfect ambience.
Even though it is a room where darkness is usually the goal, it’s important to manage light properly in your bedroom to make it easier for you to wake up in the morning and fall asleep at night. As a result, one should not solely rely on overhead lighting in the bedroom.
It is good to start with layering various forms of lighting (ambient, task, accent). For instance it's useful to focus on task first- identify what task and where it would happen in the room (for instance, reading a book in bed; doing make up by the table) and then you can start to see which kind of light you would like in certain areas. For instance, Ford Single Pendant is great for task lighting as it not only looks great but also permits the maximum lighting output without compromising unique design.
It is also important to bare in mind the design of the room- if you've chosen a eye-grabbing wallpaper in your bedroom, you won't want it covered up by large bedside lamps. Another popular approach is to match the hardware to your lights. For instance, in the photo below, the Sheridan wall lighthas been chosen to match the bed frame finish.
If there are dark corners in your bedroom, or it has minimal natural light, you could hung a mirror behind your bedside light, to bounce the light further into the room and illuminate the space. EMA lighting has a variety of mirrors, that can cater to any tastes .
On another note, if space is your problem, ceiling-hung fixtures are particularly practical as they leaves you with more floor space to use for furniture, as well as access to the bed, drawers and cupboards.
As always, our team are more than happy to help you choose the right lighting for your home. Our Neath and Cardiff branches are open 6 days a week and ready to offer you expert advice for lighting every space.
