Even though many of us understand that saving energy is important, we may not have taken as much action as we intended to. Now, as the escalating costs start to hit our pockets hard, it is the perfect time to make some changes within our homes.
1. Install LED bulbs
One of the easiest changes is to reduce the spend on running your lighting. If you haven’t yet switched out your old style bulbs, now is the time to be replacing them for LED. Did you know that they can use up to 90% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. Whilst they may cost you a little more to buy initially, they will last much longer and save you considerable running costs.
We have a variety of options available onlineand in-store, where we can help you choose the right fixture.
2. Utilise task lighting
It is cost efficient to use light where you need it. Don’t flood an entire room with light when all you need is a small reading lamp. Choose lighting that meets your specific functional needs. Bedside lights, reading lamps, under-cabinet lights, and desk lights are just a few examples of good task lighting. It is also useful to take advantage of walls as reflective surfaces. Therefore, placing lamps in corners allows light to bounce off two wall surfaces, meaning you will need fewer lights overall.
3. Use automatic timers and/or dimmers
Timers, which regulate electrical usage by turning on and shutting off lighting sources at set times, and dimmers, which allow you to modulate the brightness of a lighting source, can contribute greatly to energy savings. Our sister brand LH Evans has a variety available, so feel free to get in touch to get yours today.
4. Don't forget your outdoor lighting
Did you know that outside lights are often left on unnecessarily. Using things such as timers, motion or photoelectric sensors, or solar power with your exterior lighting setup can be helpful. We have a selection of PIR lighting for outdoors, for instance, check out this Eglo light in anthracite finish.
We hope those four tips can be useful, but if you need any other advice, feel free to pop into our branches where we can help you further.
